Husbands was previously convicted of sexual assault, in connection with an incident that occurred in November 2010. He was sentenced on Tuesday.
He is required to submit a DNA sample and will be entered into a sex offender registry as part of his sentence.
Husbands has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted murder and a charge of criminal negligence causing harm in connection with the June 2, 2012 shooting in a basement food court at Toronto’s Eaton Centre.
One man died instantly during the shooting, while another died days later in hospital.
Five others were wounded in the same shooting, but survived.
Husbands turned himself into police hours after the shooting at the downtown shopping centre.
