Quebec driver caught impersonating police

Quebec police have fined a Gatineau man who was caught driving more than 75 km/h above the speed limit and acting like a police vehicle.

Sûreté du Québec patrol officers stopped the 62-year-old driver just after 10:30 a.m. Sunday on Highway 50 near the Labrosse Boulevard exit.

Officers clocked his white vehicle, which they say looked like an unmarked police cruiser, at 178 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

Police also said he was travelling in the left lane and flashing his headlights to prompt vehicles ahead to move aside as if he was an emergency vehicle.

The driver was fined more than $1,200, his driver's licence was suspended for seven days and docked 14 points.
