TORONTO - Arthur Mendonca marked a fashion milestone as he celebrated the 10th anniversary of his namesake collection on Thursday with the showcase of his spring-summer 2013 collection inspired by Japanese culture.

The Toronto-based designer wrapped up Day 4 at World MasterCard Fashion Week with a strong selection of dresses and suited separates which teamed structured shapes and silhouettes with Mendonca's keen eye for ultra-feminine style.

The designer's interpretation of Japanese style was threaded throughout the line with lush kimono coats and dresses, mandarin collar blouses and origami pleating details on cocktail numbers. Satiny obi belts lent an eye-popping accent to dresses and blazers.

Mendonca offered a slate of sleek menswear-inspired looks such as silk boyfriend blazers and crepe de chine tuxedo pants, balanced by an all-encompassing range of dresses from metallic long-sleeved jersey numbers to elegant sheaths and strapless creations.

Mendonca made innovative use of unique textured fabrics, with metallic basketweave fashioned into a colour-blocked dress and slick varsity jacket.

Never one to shy away from bold hues, the designer's collection featured striking colour pairings and a sea of vivid shades, with burgundy, aubergine, powder and electric blues and shimmering metallics among the abundance of black and white in the line.
