HALIFAX - Nova Scotia's Health Department says it will hire seven internal auditors in an effort to ensure funds are well spent.

The department says the auditors will support the province's district health authorities and the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, which received $1.6 billion in funding this year.

Sherri Aikenhead, a spokeswoman for the department, says it will cost $744,000 to hire the auditors.

She says the money would come from existing budgets.

The department says the positions are expected to be filled by 2014-2015.
