Spring 2013 is shaping up to be a season rich in sartorial choices. Unlike day two of World MasterCard Fashion Week, which saw designers like Pink Tartan and Pavoni showcase similar trends, day three was all over the map.
Wednesday kicked off with Lucian Matis presenting an expansive range of feminine creations from his affordable line MATIS (including long-sleeved dresses and sheaths that were reminiscent of the 70s). The range of outfits were rich in colour and abstract print as well as architectural details like peek-a-boo slits and plays on peplum. He also presented a range of wares from his namesake collection -- the Moroccan-inspired line featured sleek blazers, pencil skirts and lots of textured patterns.
Next up was Korhani Home -- the always colourful and lively runway presentation from Kirsten Korhani. The creations, inspired by Korhani's carpets and home accessories, spanned decades, eras and locales: we saw everything from flapper-inspired get-ups from the 20s to sophisticated bustier dresses from the 30s. There were even tropical prints that made us feel like we were sitting on an island paradise in the Pacific.
Fast-forward to the evening, and things got decidedly 80s courtesy of buttery leather looks from Mackage. The Montreal-based designers channeled retro street style with moto jackets, vests and trenches all in softer shades of colour (think yellow, mint green and beige). The looks were adorned by exposed zippers and buckles. Co-directors Eisa Dahan and Eran Elfassy even brought back leather short-shorts. (Canadian supermodel Irina Lazareanu opened and closed the show.)
Joe Fresh wrapped up day three with a swinging 60s party full of retro prints and sportswear. There were ample black and white outfits (in stripes instead of this fall's houndstooth) as well as architectural details like ruffled necklines and pleated skirts. The collection did showcase some poppy digital patterns on pants for women as well as on the duds for dudes (the menswear line was full of floral-printed shirts and checkered suit separates). Joe also went a bit futuristic, highlighting silver foil windbreakers, jackets and short-shorts.
