Canadian Embassy In Washington D.C. Evacuated Due To Suspicious Package

The Canadian embassy in Washington, D.C. was evacuated briefly on Friday morning due to a suspicious letter.

Local police closed off an area around the embassy and the approximately 300 Canadian embassy workers left the building for a short time.

The all-clear was given and workers were allowed to return to work shortly after 10:30 a.m. ET, CTV and CP24 are reporting.

CNN is reporting that the hazmat team walked out of the building with something small in a bag.

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird briefly addressed the situation and noted that the RCMP are also on the ground to assist in the investigation.
