Alomar has agreed to return as Cleveland Indians bench coach, a job he held early in the 2012 season before taking over from the fired Manny Acta as interim skipper for the final six games of the season.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Wednesday that Alomar, 46, could still be a candidate to manage elsewhere this season.
The brother of former Blue Jays star second baseman Roberto Alomar is considered a favourite to be named the team’s 13th on field manager following the recent release of John Farrell, who has since joined the Boston Red Sox.
Sandy Alomar Jr. was a finalist for the Jays’ managerial job two years ago when Farrell was hired.
He was Cleveland’s first base coach from 2009 to 2011 and a catching instructor with the New York Mets in the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
