On the eve of the U.S. election, the CBC is taking part in an ancient Canadian tradition: making fun of Americans.
On Sunday night, CBC is airing "The American Dream?" a comedy special featuring "Daily Show" comedian Lewis Black and other funny people joking about the U.S. election during the 2012 Just for Laughs festival in Montreal.
The comedians — including Alonzo Bodden, John Wing, Andrew Maxwell, Al Rae and Kathleen Madigan — take part in another ancient Canadian ritual: wondering how Republicans even exist.
The preview videos posted to the Just for Laughs YouTube page show the comedians giving Mitt Romney a much harder time than Barack Obama, but considering a recent poll found Canadians prefer Obama to Romney by a margin of seven to one, perhaps they were just playing to the audience.
Part of the promotion for the TV special is an online game, made by Na'eem Adam and HuffPost Quebec's Tamy Emma Pepin, in which users try to figure out "who the hell said it." It features a number of the most head-scratching quotes from the campaign, as well as some awesome GIFs. Definitely worth a play.
While the outcome of Tuesday's vote may not have a profound effect on the lives of Canadians, it's safe to say many of us will be glued to our screens anyway.
Why? For the same reason the campaign has made for such great comedy: they're just a little crazier south of the border.
