SMOKY LAKE, Alta. - RCMP say there are no injuries after a school bus carrying a Boy Scout troop collided with two moose in northern Alberta.

Members of the Smoky Lake RCMP along with the Smoky Lake and Vilna fire departments responded to the call late Friday night.

They found the bus, which was carrying 24 people, badly damaged and no longer driveable.

The occupants of the bus, who had been headed for a Scout camp in the Smoky Lake area, were shuttled to a local restaurant which stayed late so the children and their chaperones would have a warm place to stay.

A local bus driver was contacted and volunteered to transport the children on his bus the remainder of the way to their camp.

Const. Gary Hyde says the community of Smoky Lake came together to turn a disastrous start to the weekend into an adventure for the children involved.
