A seven-month investigation by organized crime authorities in B.C. and Ontario has led to the arrest of several people and the seizure of 300 kilograms (665 pounds) of marijuana and $660,000 in cash.
Project Li See, which refers to Chinese red gift envelopes of cash, targeted drug trafficking and money laundering by criminal organizations in the two provinces, said a news release on Wednesday by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C. and Ontario's Asian Organized Crime Task Force.
The lengthy investigation ended with search warrants executed in Richmond, New Westminster, Burnaby as well as the Greater Toronto Area on Tuesday morning. Two men arrested in B.C. will be transported back to Ontario to face charges, said police. Eight people were also arrested in Ontario.
Eight vehicles that were seized will now be subject to proceeds of crime legislation.
The police forces estimated the street value of the dried marijuana seizure at $1,250,000.
