A 6.3-magnitude earthquake has been recorded off the west coast of Vancouver Island Wednesday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake struck 182 kilometres south-southwest of Port Hardy, B.C. at 6:01 p.m. No tsunami warning has been issued.
Minor shaking was reported by several residents from the northern part of the island.
"There are a number of felt reports we received regarding the earthquake," said Dr. Honn Kao, a seismologist with Earthquakes Canada. No damage or injury reports have been filed.
"It was not big enough to cause any significant damage," said Kao to The Huffington Post B.C.
This is the third major earthquake to have rattled the B.C. coast since a 7.7-magnitude quake struck near Haida Gwaii on Oct. 27.
Earlier Wednesday, a massive 7.4-magnitude earthquake rocked Guatemala. At least 48 people were killed with hundreds missing and injured.
