Provincial police say the man was caught on surveillance cameras at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday pulling plants from planter boxes at the site of the new Afghanistan Repatriation Memorial in Trenton, Ont.
Damage was minimal, and the plants were put back in place by city employees.
The memorial, bearing the names of the 158 Canadian soldiers who died on the Afghanistan mission, was officially dedicated on Saturday.
Police are asking that anyone with information about the mischief contact the Quinte West detachment or Crime Stoppers.
The incident comes just days after a Toronto war memorial was vandalized.
The Victory Peace memorial in Coronation Park was defaced with the words "Canada will burn praise Allah" written in what appeared to be black marker.
City workers were called in to clean the bronze memorial, built in the 1990s. Police had no immediate suspects.
