CTV likes "Saving Hope." The network really, really likes it.
Fans of the hit Canadian hospital drama received good news this past July when CTV announced it was renewing "Saving Hope." The series received a 13-episode order to air in summer 2013 (although it's U.S. network, NBC, pulled the show's final two episodes from its schedule -- but did post them on its website).
Unlike NBC, which has yet to announce whether or not it will air the second season, CTV has a lot more faith. So much so that the Canadian broadcaster has increased its order, upping it from 13 to 18 episodes. Why shouldn't CTV? "Saving Hope" was the most watched Canadian drama of the 2011-12 broadcast year, averaging an impressive 1.7 million viewers a week.
"Coming off 'Saving Hope's incredible first season run, we recognized the opportunity to give fans more from the breakout series they've quickly come to love," said Phil King, President, CTV Programming and Sports in a release. "CTV is proud to make this increased investment in more Canadian programming and support the series through a commitment of additional episodes."
"Saving Hope" joins the likes of "Flashpoint" and "The Listener." And "Saving Hope'"s success has only inspired CTV to work on more scripted series, including new drama "Motive," which is currently in production, as well as comedy pilots "Satisfaction" and "Spun Out." All in all, Bell Media has ordered 23 new original Canadian series in 2012, and put 31 scripted projects into development. Quite an impressive feat.
