In my opinion, the " Young Offender's Act" needs to be changed. " A 15-year old youth has been
arrested and charged after a man was stabbed Friday..." A 20 year old man was attacked with
a knife suffered multiple stab wounds. Police say the two didn't know each other." The suspect was arrested and charged with aggrevated assault, along with a number of other charges.
The identity of the subject cannot be released because of his age. This is horrendous.
A 15 year old youth attacked a 20 year old man with a knife at 8:30 at night and stabbed a
man he didn't even know multiple times. The suspect was charged with aggrevated assault
and will go to juvenile court. What's wrong with this picture? Plenty. Personally I think
if crimes committed with a weapon even if they are committed by a young offender should
be decided in adult court, not juvenile court and the penalty they receive should not be a
slight slap on the wrist, but a serious penalty. Adult type crimes should go to adult courts.
Perhaps if the young offenders knew they would end up in an adult court instead of a
juvenile court, they would think twice before committing a crime. Its time to change the
Young Offender's Act, maybe even release their name. It's time to get tougher penalties
for young offenders. These light penalties for young offenders aren't working.
