Broken water main floods dozens of Oak Bay homes

Thousands of residents of Oak Bay, east of Victoria, had their water cut off Tuesday afternoon after a broken water main cause the flooding of dozens of homes.

The incident began when public works crews performing routine maintenance on Bowker Street were unable to turn off a water main. That caused the flooding in the basements of dozens of nearby houses.

The municipality of Oak Bay has set up an emergency shelter at its recreation centre, but it is not known when water service will be restored.
