West Island street gangs

It's a dangerous problem that remains deliberately hidden behind the West Island's safe veneer.

Street gangs long ago set up shop in the tidy bedroom communities that make up the western suburbs of Montreal island.

Police are careful not to glorify the gangs, but there are two things that can't be denied: Street gangs exist, and getting rid of them is a nearly impossible task.

In a three-part series, CBC Montreal's Thomas Daigle examines who is behind organized street gangs in the West Island and the efforts made to curb their operations.
