TORONTO - Veteran Canadian Press reporter Dan Ralph has been inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

For a reporter gearing up for his 21st Grey Cup for The Canadian Press, it was a rare football surprise. The Football Reporters of Canada managed to keep its former president out of the loop on Sunday's announcement at the annual FRC Grey Cup brunch.

Ralph, whose son and daughter waited in the wings until the secret was out at the Royal York Hotel gathering, was also honoured by the Toronto Argonauts with a personalized jersey.

"Dan's CFL coverage leads the way in Canada," said Canadian Press sports editor Julie Scott. "His knowledge of Canadian football and his contacts within the sport are second to none. This honour is very well-deserved."

Columnist Steve Milton of the Hamilton Spectator was also inducted into the Hall of Fame. And Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette was named reporter of the year by the FRC.

Zurkowsky introduced Ralph, praising him for his passion for the CFL and football.
