Elderly pedestrian dies after being hit by car in Nanaimo

A 70-year-old Nanaimo man has died from his injuries after being hit by a car.

Police say the man was crossing Dufferin Crescent around 5:30 p.m. PT Friday when he was struck by a car driven by an 80-year-old woman.

The man, whose name has not been released, was rushed to Nanaimo Regional hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigators say the man was not in a marked crosswalk when he was hit and was wearing dark clothing.

Neither speed nor alcohol were factors.

Charges are not expected against the driver.
