Discussions of Calgary Centre's byelection heated up on Twitter as the results neared. This is the first time since 1968 that there are candidates who threaten to weaken the Conservative hold on the riding in Calgary.

Some noted the unusual suspense around the results:

Dave Cournoyer
Strange. A federal election in Calgary where the winner hasn't been declared in 5 minutes of counting.

While others discussed changes they think are needed:

Chris McClure
So anyone want to go Trump yet & start a revolution to demand electoral reform?

And some just wanted to know the results:

Rick Mercer
For frigs sake count faster I am on the east coast and I have to be up at 6:00 am

See what Albertans had to say about the election below.

If I was the #LPC in #yyccentre I would be reaching out to Green voters to build a coalition before the next election. #cdnpoli

Even more telling in #yyccentre is not that Crockatt won by 3 points, it's that the #GreenParty received 25% of the vote.

.@crockatteer Congrats on your #yyccentre win. But please represent your divided constituency and not the will of the PMO.

It's true the PM got everything he wanted last night in #yyccentre: the split, and the seat. And who knows how much he cared about the seat?

  • Mark MacKenzie

@harveylocke, his party and his team failed to inspire the 70% who didn't vote. That's why he didn't win. #yyccentre

Hey @crockatteer: I am thinking of Mexico holiday this winter. Can you DM me your home number in case I lose passport? Thx. #yyccentre

For Liberals in #yycCentre last night's byelection result was like getting hit by a train that you saw coming. The polls were correct.
