Former lieutenant-governor of P.E.I., Gilbert Clements, dies at age 84

MONTAGUE, - Gilbert Clements, a former lieutenant-governor of Prince Edward Island, died Tuesday in Montague.

The 84-year-old resident of the eastern P.E.I. community was also a member of the legislature and a Liberal cabinet minister in several governments.

In 1995, he was appointed as the province's lieutenant-governor.

He held a number of cabinet positions in the government of Premier Alex B. Campbell and was the finance minister in the government of Premier Joe Ghiz.

Clements was known as an avid lover of the outdoors, and was made an official patron of the P.E.I. Wildlife Federation while lieutenant-governor of the province.
