WINNIPEG - Seven Manitoba communities are about to lose their circuit courts.

Justice Minister Andrew Swan says Killarney, Neepawa, Amaranth, Carman, Morris, Teulon and Lac Du Bonnet (BONN'-ee) will no longer hold court hearings.

The courts will be consolidated with other venues in neighbouring communities, up to 40 kilometres away.

Swan says the current circuit courts are not very busy and sometimes sit for just a few hours each visit.

He says that ties up judges, clerks, Crown attorneys and others for the whole day.

The government says the changes will take effect as soon as possible and will make the court system more efficient.
