CALGARY - There's been a sentencing delay for a former students union president Meghan Melnyk, who admitted to robbing a bank in southeast Calgary.

Melnyk pleaded guilty in August to taking money from a Servus Credit Union last February after handing a teller a note.

Melnyk, a former communications student at Mount Royal University, has switched lawyers and is next to appear in court Dec. 21.

After her guilty plea in the summer, the 28-year-old said she was sorry for losing control of herself.

She said she was at a loss to explain why she robbed the bank, but admitted she has a gambling problem

Her new counsel, Toni Rolston, says she isn't ruling out withdrawing Melnyk's guilty pleas but needs to read through the case first.
