Canada's train of female leaders doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

The Women’s Executive Network (WXN) revealed their 10th annual list of Canada's 100 most powerful women, celebrating the country's most well-known and upcoming female leaders.

This year's selection process included awards in nine sections: women who work in arts and communication, advance others in the workplace, sit as corporate board members, hold senior positions, own and operate their own businesses, young female leaders, leaders in their field of work, women in the public sector and young trendsetters.

“It's yet another outstanding group of women who are showing great leadership in so many different organizations and sectors from coast to coast,” says Pamela Jeffery, founder of the WXN, to The Huffington Post Canada. "We continue to see more women in C-suite roles [women who hold positions as CEOs, COOs for example] and these positions continue to go up," she says.

Jeffery says she started this annual list to inspire young women to find inspiration and role models. This year's list included familiar faces like fashion designer and host Jeanne Beker, founder and president of F**K Cancer Yael Cohen and president and CEO of Plan International Canada Inc., Rosemary McCarney.

And Canada certainly isn't short on female leaders. Last month, Women of Influence magazine listed the top 25 most influential women in the country, ranging from women who work in business, health, non-government organizations, professional services and the public sector.

But Jeffery also says Canada has a long way to go when it comes to recognizing women of visible minorities and adding more women to the FP500 board — a ranking of Canada's largest companies by market value.

"We know that there is a very slow movement in terms of women who hold seats — only 14.4 per cent of FP500 board seats are held by women," she tells The Huffington Post Canada, adding that this number has gone up since 2001.

For WXN's list this year, 255 women were nominated overall and the WXN advisory board verified the selection criteria for all nine sections. To nominate a leader costs $295 and all proceeds goes towards providing bursaries for the WXNWisdom Top 100 Mentoring Program.
