WATCH: Catfish Attacks Pigeon

We've seen sharks jump out of the water to attack seals and apparently this behaviour isn't just limited to those fearsome predators.

Scientists from France's University of Toulouse have released a paper and video of European catfish leaping out of the water and pulling pigeons into the water.

"From a bridge above a gravel island on the river, the researchers watched the fish from June through October 2011. Over that time they saw 54 pigeon hunting incidents, and in 28% of these cases, the catfish successfully captured their prey on land and dragged them back into the water to eat them."

Although they can grow to several hundred pounds, incidents of catfish are really rare. But there have been incidents of catfish biting fishermen and swimmers in Europe.
