A man has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of transgender woman, January Marie Lapuz.

Charles Jameson (Jamie) Neel, 20, was arrested by police on Wednesday, according to a news release by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

January Lapuz was found with stab wounds in her New Westminster home on the evening of Sept. 29. She was taken to hospital where she later died.

Lapuz was a transgender woman who changed her name from John Carlo Embro in 2008.
