Real Wedding: Tradition Meets Eclectic In Unique Toronto Nuptials

Indian Tradition Meets Eclectic In Unique Toronto Nuptials

Rob and Neena wed in a sunlit courtyard at The Liberty Grand in Toronto -- a fitting place for them to tie the knot, considering it's the city in which they met and fell in love. The bride and groom created a truly unique celebration by incorporating traditions from each of the their cultures, and adding some touches that were entirely their own into the mix. We just love Neena's killer bridal style: her vibrant sari, her chic reception dress and her sparkly Jimmy Choo pumps. Colorful parasols and a "cheese" cake -- literally four wheels of cheese stacked on top of each other to form a tiered wedding "cake -- make this a stylish and memorable wedding. Real Wedding: Indian Tradition Meets Eclectic In Unique Toronto Nuptials

From the Bride... "There were a few elements that were pretty unique to our wedding. First off, neither of us wanted to put our friends through the duties of being in an official bridal party, but we wanted them to know that they were all special to us. So we got ready with our friends, asked them to wear whatever they wanted and met up early at the venue for some pictures. Since I am a fan of bright and saturated colors, I bought parasols for all of my girlfriends from Chinatown to add some pop!

Rob and I both come from different cultures, and I think the most meaningful and unique part of our wedding was the ceremony, which was a fusion of our family traditions. Rob helped his parents to their seats while the Vitamin String Quartet's version of Hey Jude played in the background, and I came down the aisle to a string version of Extreme's More than Words. Rob's uncle read from his hundred year-old family bible, and my uncle performed the rituals of exchanging flower garlands and taking seven steps, both which are sacred to my culture. We also wrote our own vows for each other. The ceremony included every emotion possible and truly captured our love and commitment to each other. It was my absolute favorite part of the day.

DIY projects for our wedding included sparkly drink sticks, the wedding programs (printed at home), as well as our "cake". Neither of us are cake lovers, so we decided to have a literal cheese cake" for our wedding. We went to St. Lawrence Market and bought 4 wheels of cheese. Our planner Whitney layered the wheels of cheese to look like tiers of a cake and dressed it up with a cake topper. It was a hit!"
