Driver wanted for hitting pedestrians escapes police again

A man wanted in connection with an incident in which three pedestrians were run down last week managed to escape a second encounter with police.

Police say they spotted Steven Paul Brunswick driving north on Bathurst Street near Lawrence Avenue West at about 2 a.m. Wednesday. Police tried to box in the stolen black Volkswagen Golf Brunswick was allegedly driving. Two unmarked police vehicles were rammed as the suspect escaped in his vehicle.

Brunswick, 47, is wanted in connection with a Dec. 7 incident in which police spotted a man driving a stolen Mercedes-Benz at Yonge and Eglinton.

When police tried to apprehend the suspect, police say he drove at one of their officers then veered onto a crowded sidewalk, striking three people. A 55-year-old woman was sent to hospital and later released.

The suspect fled the scene and the vehicle was found abandoned a few blocks away.

Brunswick is now wanted on several charges, including attempted murder and several break and enter charges.

Police say he is alone and could be anywhere in the city. He is also considered dangerous. They also say the Volkswagen involved in Wednesday's incident has suffered extensive damage.
