Pedestrian struck and killed in Vaughan

A 79-year-old man has died after being stuck by a van in Vaughan.

The collision occurred at Dufferin Hill Drive and Forest Run Boulevard at around 8:45 a.m. Friday, York Regional Police said.

The pedestrian, who police believe was in his 70s, was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The 25-year-old driver of the GMC Safari van that struck him remained at the scene, police said. A police investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been laid, said Const. Blair McQuillian Friday afternoon.

Police haven't said what led to the collision, but they are conducting interviews in the area. Police are appealing for a woman who was walking in the area at the time of the collision and may have witnessed it to come forward.

Part of the road was closed as police investigated.
