BC Ferries service between Vancouver Island and the mainland has resumed after sailings were cancelled for much of the morning due to extreme weather.

However, traffic at ferry terminals was heavy for much of the afternoon due to the cancellations.

Environment Canada issued a warning Saturday morning as winds of up to 100 km/h were expected over the Central Coast and near northern Vancouver Island.

At the border, Canadians heading south into the United States are warned to expect long lineups Saturday.

Waits of 30 to 45 minutes were expected at most crossings for much of the day.
