Gun, $250K seized in Abbotsford traffic stop

Abbotsford police seized a handgun and $250,000 USD during a traffic stop Friday evening.

Police spotted a white mini-van travelling very slowly along the Canada-U.S. border in the Sumas Prairie area of Abbotsford at about 7 p.m. PT.

The van was stopped at Vye and Whatcom roads. Inside, police found $250,000 USD, a “substantial amount” of Canadian currency and a 9mm handgun with a loaded magazine.

Two Canadian and two Mexican citizens were inside the van.

The Mexican citizens are being held for immigration and for possible further criminal investigation.

The Canadian pair was released and charges are being considered.
