Gaspé fire leaves one dead

A house fire in the Gaspésie, Que. region has left one man dead.

On Sunday morning, firefighters arrived at a home on Sunny Bank Street in Gaspé after receiving a 911 call at about 1:50 a.m.

The body of the victim was found in the debris. The man, 78, lived alone in the residence.

His remains have been sent to a Montreal forensic laboratory for identification.

Preliminary findings suggest the fire was accidental, but officials with the Sûreté du Québec are on the scene investigating the exact cause of the fire.
