Kamloops police say they're not worried about a supposed "End of the World" party expected to attract over 14,000 revellers.
A party advertised on Facebook calls on guests to gather at the Kamloops Tree Flats on Thursday for an "END OF THE WORLD PARTY" to celebrate the end of existence, which many have interpreted the Mayan calendar to have predicted for Dec. 21, 2012.
"GET F&%KING HAMMERDDD WOOOOO! invite EVERYONE, LETS MAKE THIS THE BIGGEST PARTY IN THE WORLD THE NIGHT WE ALL SUPPOSED DIE....lol," the Facebook event description says.
For its part, the RCMP are not biting.
Staff Sgt. Grant Learned told the Kamloops Daily News that he'd be surprised if anyone showed up for the party, which has been advertised on Facebook for two years.
"You’d be lucky to get the graduating Class of 2013 there," he told the paper.
Kamloops Mayor Peter Milobar is also aware of the party and says a gathering of that size could be concerning.
"Obviously it's not good if a massive amount of people turn up to an area like that, but in terms of response it would really fall to the RCMP," he told Info-Tel News.
Officers will be made aware of the party despite the force's lack of concern. Police regularly patrol the Tree Flats, a remote area that has attracted large parties in the past.
One bush party at the Tree Flats attracted 1,200 people last summer. A young woman was injured after being run over by a truck, the Kamloops Daily News reported.
