Canada's Top 10 most-viewed on YouTube

YouTube has counted up the hits on viral videos and discovered Psy’s Gangnam Style was the most-watched video in Canada in 2012.

That’s hardly a surprise, as the Korean singer’s catchy tune has been burning up broadband lines around the world and is approaching one billion hits worldwide.

Canadians also loved the video of Britney Spears learning to dance Gangnam Style from Psy himself — that was No. 5 on the most-watched list.

Mission, B.C., singer Carly Rae Jepsen’s version of Call Me Maybe with Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez was a top trend, and the kid parody produced by MattyBRaps & Cimrelli was almost as popular.

Walk Off the Earth, the Burlington, Ont.-based band, had a huge following with their cover of Gotye hit Somebody That I Used to Know and more hits than Gotye himself, who is not among the Top 10. Walk Off the Earth all crowd into the frame to play one guitar in a surprisingly tuneful rendition.

In addition to its Top 10, YouTube released a list of top videos of sports, animals, style and comedy.

The Steve Jobs vs. Bill Gates mash-up, with the tech titans taking part in a rap battle, was tops in the animation category, as well as making the Top 10 most-watched list.

The video of a man swimming in his pool with a pet polar bear led the animal videos, but there were a couple of cat escapades in the top five.

The top videos by category:

- Comedy: I’m Elmo and I know it (LMFAO Parody).

- Education: Cheryl and Morgan: Learning Independence (Google SearchStories).

- Film and animation: Steve Jobs vs. Bill Gates Epic Rap Battles of History Season 2.

- How-to: Very cool way to separate yolk from egg white.

- Style: Secret Garden — Versailles.

- Pets and animals: The Only Man in the World Who Can Swim with a Polar Bear.

- Sports: The Impossible Made Possible (ad).
