Quebec's minimum hourly wage will increase to $10.15

The Quebec government has announced the minimum wage will be raised by 25 cents on May 1.

The next increase will see the minimum hourly wage increased to $10.15.

People who receive tips at their jobs will see their wage go to $8.75 from $8.55. Fruit pickers who are paid according to their productivity will receive 79 cents per kilogram. Those who pick raspberries will earn $2.98 per kilogram.

Labour Minister Agnès Maltais said the annual minimum wage increase is a way for the government to fight poverty and improve the work environment.

More than nine out of 10 workers who earn minimum wage in Quebec work in the services industry. Most of them work in hotels, restaurants and retail stores.
