Harper Tweets Simpsons Video With Bacon Message

Harper: Mmm... Bacon

There's something strange going on with the prime minister's Twitter account. Canadians have often chuckled that Stephen Harper lacks personality, but lately his tweets have been full of just that.

On Friday, the PM's official Twitter account posted a Simpsons clip in which the family sings "you don't make friends with salad" (watch above). Harper included the message "Mmm... Bacon." The tweet was posted as a reply to Homer Simpson, the show's goofy cartoon father.

Homer replied that he too enjoys "super thick and bun-sized" bacon.

It may seem like a weird tweet from the nation's leader, but it seems to be part of a trend. Last week he tweeted a Seinfeld clip at NDP leader Tom Mulcair.

So what's going on? Has his account been hacked? Is a new intern at the helm of the account? Did he get a new smartphone? We don't know for sure — we haven't received a reply from the prime minster's office yet — but many on Twitter seem to be amused. There are those however who think the PM's new "fun" personality is inappropriate — especially as Attawapiskat chief Theresa Spence is on her second week of a hunger strike.

What do you think of Harper's new Twitter persona? Let us know in the comments.
