Surrey domestic dispute leaves 2 with gunshot wounds

Two people are in hospital with gunshot wounds after a domestic dispute in south Surrey early Friday morning.

Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet says a woman in her mid 30s was shot twice in front of her 10-year-old son just after midnight. She suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The shooter, who is thought to be known to the woman, fled the scene.

He was stopped by police a short time later near King George Highway and 24th Street, when he turned the gun on himself. He was taken to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Paquet says the 10-year-old boy was not harmed but is quite shaken.

The Independent Investigations Office has taken over the investigation into the self-inflicted shooting.

Four IIO investigators have been deployed and are currently working to identify police and civilian witnesses.

Paquet says police do not appear to have fired any shots.
