Baddeck, N.S. RCMP are investigating a rash of thefts from about 30 vehicles and some sheds leading up to Christmas.

Const. Aaron Brown said police received a call on Sunday about a suspicious vehicle in the area, but they weren't able to find it.

Brown said just after 8 a.m. on Christmas Eve police began receiving calls about the break-ins. He said it was a Christmas crime of opportunity.

"It absolutely was, not too many people leave their presents in their vehicle overnight unattended but when it was in plain view and these suspects entered onto the property," said Brown, "You know I just think they took advantage of what they saw before them and removed items that weren't theirs."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Baddeck RCMP.

Brown said they have some leads in the case, but are hoping for more tips from the public. Police expect to have an update later this week.
