Nursing home in St. John's, N.L., restricts visits due to outbreak of flu

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - A health board in Newfoundland and Labrador is restricting visits to a nursing home due to an outbreak of influenza at the residence.

Eastern Health says only immediate family members can enter St. Patrick's Mercy Home in St. John's.

It is also asking that family members call the home before coming to visit.

The health authority says it wants to remind the public not to visit seniors' residences if they aren't feeling well due to the flu or gastrointestinal illness.

People are also urged to wash their hands and cover their faces with tissues or the crook of their arm when coughing when visiting a nursing home.
