CALGARY - A fatal crash involving a prisoner transfer van has closed both lanes of the busy Trans-Canada Highway between Calgary and the mountain parks.

Police say the crash happened around 10 a.m. Thursday.

A GMC Envoy heading west spun out, crossed the median and hit an oncoming van that in turn hit a prisoner van.

The adult female passenger in the Envoy was killed, while two others have been taken to hospital.

There were no prisoners in the transport van at the time.

Poor road conditions are cited as a factor in the crash.
