Man charged in Toronto's 1st homicide of 2013

A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the murder of Toronto's first homicide victim of the year.

Nicholas Silvera surrendered on Tuesday, hours after the early morning stabbing of O'Marie Brooks, 22, outside a bar on Keele Street south of Steeles Avenue West, police said Wednesday.

Brooks was rushed from the scene outside Randy's Sports Bar at 4801 Keele Street to Humber Finch Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy is being conducted Wednesday.

Silvera was charged with second degree murder and was making an appearance in court Wednesday.

Police have said there was "some sort of a confrontation" in the parking lot outside the bar before the stabbing.
