Broken hydro line falls into Fraser River

BC Hydro was working to remove a fallen high-tension power line from the Fraser River Sunday.

The wire, which spanned the river between Burnaby and New Westminster, damaged some parked cars in the Queensborough area as it fell.

A hydro spokeswoman said the line did not have power running through it and crews were able to respond quickly to remove it from a roadway and the parking lot.

The spokeswoman said it wasn’t clear how long it would take to remove the line from the river, and that the cause of the breakage was still under investigation.
