City of Red Deer fined after pleading guilty to a release of PCBs

RED DEER, Alta. - A city in central Alberta has pleaded guilty to releasing PCBs in 2010.

The incident happened at a transformer station in Red Deer.

The spill was contained to a small fenced site and was cleaned up in accordance with Canadian environmental quality guidelines.

Five other charges against the city were withdrawn.

The city will pay a fine of $50,000 which will be used to further enhance or develop environmental protection in Red Deer and surrounding area.
