Brampton firefighter killed in Caledon collision

A 24-year-veteran of the Brampton fire department and father of two was killed Friday after a head-on collision in Caledon.

Howard Hughes, 50, was on his way to work from his home in Orangeville when his car collided head-on with a pick-up truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was hospitalized and is in stable condition, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.

The crash happened on Hwy. 10 between King Street and Boston Mills Road just after 4:15 p.m. ET.

Hughes was also a bagpiper with the fire service.
