Highway 10 West reopened after several accidents

Authorities have reopened a stretch of Highway 10 West between Richelieu and Highway 30 which was closed due to several mishaps.

Quebec's provincial police said about 10 cars slid off the road, and two large transport trucks jackknifed before landing in the ditch.

Authorities were forced to close a 20-kilometre stretch of highway until the vehicles could be towed away.

The provincial police said seven people were taken to hospital with minor injuries, but were all released quickly.

Earlier this afternoon, Quebec's environment ministry dispatched an emergency vehicle to inspect one of the stalled trucks, which was transporting a flammable substance.

Police say a drop in temperature caused the roads to get slippery. They urge all drivers to slow down and drive with care.
