LAC LA BICHE, Alta. - Roads in parts of northern Alberta are in terrible shape and RCMP say they're not likely to improve any time soon.

On Tuesday night, Lac La Biche RCMP briefly closed Highway 881 about 10 kilometres north of the community due to motor vehicle collisions.

They said all highways in Lac La Biche County were snow covered and have ice and slush build up.

RCMP were reporting moderate to high snowfall with reduced visibility.

On top of that, unseasonably warm weather was turning packed snow into slippery slush.

Highway 63 near Boyle, Alta., was also reported to be in bad shape, with RCMP warning drivers that tow trucks were not responding to calls.

From Slave Lake to Peace River, the forecast was for rain turning into snow as temperatures dipped for the night.
