PERTH-ANDOVER, N.B. - The mayor of a village in western New Brunswick says he won't resign even though council has passed a motion of non-confidence.

Perth-Andover Mayor Terry Ritchie made the announcement late Monday, a month after the motion was passed unanimously at a closed-door meeting.

Deputy Mayor Rick Beaulieu says a rift between council and the mayor is making it difficult to get things done.

Beaulieu says the municipality has several major projects on the horizon and is still recovering from a devastating flood last spring.

The council has now turned to the province for help, saying the minister of local government should review the dysfunction within council.

Beaulieu says the relationship between council and the mayor has been lousy from the start.
