Richmond banquet shooting suspect appears in court

Police have charged a 26-year-old man in connection with the shootings at a Richmond banquet hall earlier this week.

Sukhdeep Singh Sandhu appeared in provincial court on Friday and was charged with three counts of attempted murder, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of dangerous driving.

Sandhu’s lawyer says his client has no previous criminal record.

Four people were sent to hospital on Wednesday night after police were called to the Riverside Banquet Hall in Richmond, B.C., just after 9 p.m. PT to investigate reported gunfire.

Mounties described a chaotic scene at the hall involving an estimated 100 guests, some of whom were transported by bus to the local detachment for further questioning.

Two men were critically injured in the shooting while two others suffered less serious gunshot wounds.

Police are still trying to determine if the shooting was gang-related.
