FREDERICTON - New Brunswick's health minister says the two men leading the work on health renewal are the best people to implement the plan in the province's two hospital authorities.

Hugh Flemming has named John McGarry as CEO of the Horizon Health Network and Rino Volpe as CEO of the Vitalite Health Network.

Flemming says the men will remain as co-presidents of the Office of Health Renewal, but take on the new roles as of Feb. 1.

The Office of Health Renewal was mandated to look for ways to bring the per capita cost of health care closer to the national average by 2016-2017.

Flemming says the four-year terms for the two men are reasonable times to make the changes that are needed.

He says the $3-billion budget for health care in New Brunswick is sufficient, but it needs to be spent in a smarter and more efficient way.
