A woman has died after a fire in a Calgary duplex.

Firefighters were called to a northwest-area residence late Thursday night where they found a residence filled with thick smoke.

A woman in her 40s was discovered unconscious in the basement.

She was pulled from the home, but was later pronounced dead.

The adjoining residence was evacuated as a precaution.

The name of the victim has not been released and an autopsy is scheduled.
