A two-alarm fire at an apartment building in Scarborough sent several people to hospital this morning.

The blaze broke out around 5:30 a.m. ET on the first floor of 1457 Kingston Rd. near Warden Avenue, but it was extinguished about an hour later.

First responders made multiple rescues out of windows of the low-rise using ladders.

CBC Toronto's Tony Smyth said six patients were transported to hospital and eight people were treated for smoke inhalation.

Toronto Transit Commission buses were sent to the scene to provide shelter.
